Early Learning Assistant

Support preschool-aged children (ages 4–5) as they build foundational academic, social, and emotional skills that prepare them for kindergarten success.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Early Learning Instructor during classroom activities.
• Work one-on-one or in small groups with children on literacy and math activities.
• Encourage positive behavior and social interaction.
• Read stories, play educational games, and support hands-on learning experiences.
• Help prepare and organize classroom materials.
• Foster a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for all students.

Program Hours

• Monday–Thursday, September through May, from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Time Commitment

• Volunteers typically serve one day a week.

Homework Plus Tutor

Provide academic support, encouragement, and mentorship to elementary and middle school students through one-on-one tutoring and relationship-building.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students in reading, math, language arts, and other academic subjects.
• Assist students with homework assignments and classroom concepts.
• Encourage positive study habits and organizational skills.
• Build meaningful relationships that foster confidence and personal growth.
• Support enrichment activities as needed.
• Serve as a positive role model and advocate for student success.

Program Hours

• Monday–Thursday, September through May, from 3 p.m to 5 p.m.

Time Commitment

• Volunteers typically serve one or more afternoons per week.

Summer Academics Tutor

Help prevent summer learning loss by supporting students in grades K-9 in a structured academic enrichment program focused on reading, math, and educational activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with daily academic assignments and learning activities.
• Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring.
• Encourage student participation and engagement.
• Support enrichment experiences, educational games, and special projects.
• Help maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
• Celebrate student achievements and progress throughout the summer.

Program Hours

• Monday–Thursday during June, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Time Commitment

• Volunteers typically serve one day a week.

Group Volunteer Projects

NDUEC welcomes corporate, school, faith-based, and community groups interested in making a meaningful impact through service. Group volunteer opportunities provide a hands-on way to support our mission while fostering teamwork and community engagement.

Project opportunities are limited and may include:

• Painting and facility improvement projects
• Landscaping and outdoor beautification
• Organizing classrooms, storage areas, and learning materials
• Preparing program supplies and resources
• Hosting educational, recreational, or enrichment activities for children
• Assisting with special events and community gatherings

We are always open to new ideas and welcome the opportunity to customize volunteer projects based on your group’s interests, skills, and availability.

Volunteer Requirements

To ensure the safety and well-being of the children and families we serve, all volunteers must:

• Adhere to NDUEC’s confidentiality policies and maintain strict confidentiality regarding student and family information.
• Successfully complete criminal background and child abuse record screenings.
• Complete the Virtus Protecting God’s Children training program and any required ongoing Virtus online training.
